Smathers Cruso Scholarship Fund

The Smathers Cruso Scholarship Fund was established by the Smathers family who is committed to supporting the Haywood County public schools. The family realizes the importance of a post high school degree and will provide a scholarship to a high school senior to help achieve this goal. This is a renewable scholarship for $2000 for up to two years.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Graduating High School Senior from public school in Haywood County (enrolled for the entirety of their senior year)
• Preference given to students attending Haywood Community College
• Financial Need
• Preference given to students who are physically handicapped, require special facilities or equipment to attend college

PROCESS
A committee, appointed by the Foundation, will review the applications. The committee will make a recommendation for the recipient of the scholarship. The selection process shall consist of a review and evaluation of the scholarship application and possibly a personal interview. The Board of Directors of the Foundation will make the final decision on the recipient of this scholarship. The Board’s decision shall be final. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable foundation, will administer the scholarship fund.

PAYMENT OF AWARDS
Payment of scholarship awards will be made at the beginning of the school year or at the beginning of each semester. Checks will be made payable to the school for student’s account and will be forwarded to the financial aid office. A copy of the previous semester grades is required to be submitted to the Foundation before further payment will occur.
