This scholarship is in memory of Ray W. Foster Jr., who was a special needs student in the 50’s and 60’s. Ray was in the Haywood County School System before the development of classes were established to meet his needs. Through the diligent efforts of his parents, Deane and Ray Foster, Ray was able to attend speech therapy and get medical care before it was even available in our county. He found his career delivering newspapers, one of which was the Waynesville Mountaineer. He made many friends in the Canton area too and was a member of Canton Presbyterian Church. We, his family, wish to make this scholarship possible for students like Ray. This scholarship is a one – time, $750 scholarship. We are so thankful that students today have many more opportunities to succeed, learn and be an asset to their community
